CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)

OVERVIEW

The Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) is designed to meet the needs of builders and managers of small and medium-sized businesses.

This practical course is delivered by registered builders in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment. You will cover common practical skills and knowledge required for the building and construction industry.

After successfully completing the qualification, you will have all the required knowledge to apply to become a registered builder in the class of Domestic Builder (Unlimited), with the Victorian Building Authority. The Diploma of Building and construction (Building) course is offered by National Construction Training (NCT), a trading name of National Training Services Pty Ltd (RTO 21254).

The maximum duration for this program is 15 months.

Who Is It For?

The Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) is suitable for those with more than 3 years experience or who are currently working in the building and construction industry. If you are new to the building and construction industry with less than three years’ work experience, the Dual Qualification Certificate IV in Building and Construction and Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) is recommended.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    There are no prerequisite qualification requirements, however applicants should be currently or recently employed with the building and construction industry.

    To work on construction sites, you must have completed the unit CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work safely in the construction industry with a WorkSafe approved Registered Training Organisation and hold a current White Card issued by WorkSafe. A White Card may be required when students visit work sites or undertake field work during this course.

    FEES

    National Training Services can access state government funding for this qualification through the Victorian Skills First funding program. Participants who are eligible for Skills First funding will pay no tuition fees. If participants are not eligible for funding a fee may be required, please contact NTS for details on fee for service costs.

    VICTORIAN SKILLS FIRST ELIGIBILITY

    You may be eligible for Skills First Funding if you are:

    • an Australian citizen, permanent resident, New Zealand citizen, or a holder of an approved bridging, protection, safe haven or humanitarian visa; and
    • living in Victoria
    • enrolling in no more than 2 Skills First funded programs this year
    • undertaking no more than 2 Skills First funded programs at the same time

    CERTIFICATION

    To be awarded the CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) competency must be achieved in twenty seven (27) units of competency. These are comprised of:

    • Twenty four (24) core units; and
    • Three (3) elective units

    RESOURCES

    Classes are conducted using Zoom to deliver remote learning. The learning and assessment resources are in digital format, available online via our Learning Management System (LMS). Students will require their own computer and must have a reliable internet connection with sufficient bandwidth and speed to be able to participate in zoom class sessions, access on-line learning and assessment materials, submit assessments on-line, communicate via email, track progress and respond to requests from trainers.

    Web access to various publicly available websites is necessary to undertake learning and complete assessments. Information on these websites is included in the material on our LMS.

    Most assessments can be completed on-line using our LMS but some documents may require printing to complete them and then scanning to upload and submit them.

    Software and hardware required to fully participate in the learning and assessment program includes the following:

    • A computer running a current version of windows (A PC with Windows or a Mac with Parallels and Windows).
    • A current version of Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • A current web browser.
    • Access to a printer and scanner for printing some documents and uploading some completed assessments.
    • Capacity to open, read and print PDF files.
    • Access to a costing and quotation software product called Quote Fast. This product is provided free of charge by the developer and is used in several parts of the course. It requires Windows, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel to run and generate reports. Instructions and assistance for installing this product will be provided during the course.
    • Students may need to supply their own PPE for site visits and field activities.
    • The Building Training Standards Set from Standards Australia. The recommended way to access these standards is as a single user mobile only access subscription on the Standards Australia website.

    • Regular classes are conducted remotely using Zoom
    • Classes are two nights per week, either Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday
    • All classes are from 6 pm to 9 pm
    • Access to learning and assessment resources is via our Online Learning Management System
    • Assessments can be completed and submitted via the Learning Management System

    Some units in this qualification may involve field work or site visits. Currently the only unit requiring field work is CPCCBC4018 Apply site surveys and set out procedures. This unit involves one or two days in the field conducting site surveys and set out procedures using levelling and surveying devices to develop a topographic contour plan and calculate cut and fill quantities. These days will be arranged by your trainer at different times during the year at locations in metropolitan Melbourne. Completion of the field work is required in order to complete this unit of competency.
