COURSE OVERVIEW
The dual qualification in building and construction is designed to meet the needs of builders and managers of small and medium-sized businesses.
This practical course is delivered by registered builders in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment. You will cover common practical skills and knowledge required for the building and construction industry.
After successfully completing the dual qualification, you will have all the required knowledge to apply to become a registered builder in the class of Domestic Builder (Unlimited), with the Victorian Building Authority. This course is delivered by National Construction Training (NCT), a trading name of National Training Services Pty Ltd (RTO 21254).

The maximum duration for this program is 18 months.

WHO IS IT FOR?
This dual qualification is suitable for those who are new to the building and construction industry. If you have experience or you are currently working in the industry, the Diploma Qualification is recommended.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no prerequisite qualification requirements, however applicants should be employed with the building and construction industry.
You must have completed unit CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work safely in the construction industry prior to commencing the course. Either a Statement of Attainment must be submitted as evidence prior to commencing the course or they must confirm having a valid White Card by selecting the option ‘Yes’ in ‘Vocational Education and Training Qualification History’ section of NTS Enrolment Application Form.
TUITION FEES
National Training Services can access state government funding for this qualification through the Victorian Skills First funding program. Participants who are eligible for Skills First funding will pay no tuition fees. If participants are not eligible for funding a fee may be required, please contact NTS for details on fee for service costs.
VICTORIAN SKILLS FIRST ELIGIBILITY
You may be eligible for Skills First Funding if you are:
an Australian citizen, permanent resident, New Zealand citizen, or a holder of an approved bridging, protection, safe haven or humanitarian visa; and
living in Victoria
enrolling in no more than 2 Skills First funded programs this year
To be awarded the CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction competency must be achieved in ninteen (19) units of competency. These are comprised of:
Eleven core units of competency
Eight elective units of competency
To be awarded the CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) competency must be achieved in twenty seven (27 units of competency). These are comprised of:
Twenty four (24) core units of competency
Three (3) elective units of competency
Participants enrolled in the dual qualification will receive credits towards the Diploma qualification for fourteen (14) units which are completed in the Certificate IV qualification. These 14 units are identified in the list of units which can be accessed via the link below.
Classes are conducted using Zoom to deliver remote learning. The learning and assessment resources are in digital format, available online via our Learning Management System (LMS). Students will require their own computer and must have an internet connection in order to be able to participate in classes, access learning and assessment materials, submit assessments, track progress and respond to requests from trainers.
Web access to various publicly available websites will be necessary to undertake learning and complete assessments. Information on these websites is included in the material on our LMS.
Access to a range of Australian Standards for Building and Construction is required for completing learning activities and assessments for some units. Australian Standards are commercial products which can be purchased. You may also be able to access these products through membership of an industry body such as the HIA or the Master Builders Association of Victoria, through your employer, or via the Australian Standards Reader Room service.
