COURSE OVERVIEW

The Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising (MFI Business Stream) is intended for assistant design and product development roles in the fashion industry, as well as assistant roles associated with managing fashion product as part of a fashion enterprise. Skills include design and product development, as well as technical production skills to support management and fashion businesses.

 

This course centers on fashion business, including computer aided design and illustration and has a strong focus on sales, marketing, supply chains, buying, finance and more.

 

Outcomes allow for specialisation in fashion design and product development and business merchandising, as well as generalist roles. Business outcomes build on technical production skills and provide a basis for career progression to design or business management roles.

 

Fashion qualifications are offered by Melbourne Fashion Institute RTO 21254 (MFI), a registered trading name of National Training Services Pty Ltd and approved by the Australian Skills Quality Authority who are our Government regulatory agency.

WHO IS IT FOR

This course focuses on the main areas of a fashion business and is suitable for those who are looking to start their own fashion business as well as working in the industry. This is a comprehensive theory-based course that will ensure you gain a solid understanding of all the elements that drive a fashion business.

CERTIFICATION

To be awarded the MST50116 Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising (MFI Business Stream), competency must be achieved in thirty-five (35) units of competency, consisting of:

 

  • Nine core units of competency
  • Twenty-six elective units of competency

ASSESSMENT

Assessment requires competence in units that align to all assignments, set tasks and projects. In order to develop the knowledge and skills to successfully complete the course, students are required to be punctual and encouraged to attend all classes.
